Wilwood
Wilwood Brake Products
Wilwood Engineering designs and manufactures high-performance disc brake systems. Since founding in 1977, Wilwood has developed a substantial matrix of brake components and engineering techniques that allow them to quickly and reliably create brake systems for almost any application. Wilwood's core ability is the rapid development of custom engineered brake systems using a combination of off-the-shelf and custom components. In addition to designing and manufacturing brakes for all types of competitive motor sports, Wilwood also manufactures brake systems and components for agricultural equipment, industrial applications, utility vehicles, snowmobiles, quads, motorcycles and military vehicles.
Wilwood employs approximately 250 people at their Camarillo, California facility. They have on-shelf stock of over 300 different brake calipers, 200 rotor designs, 100 master cylinder designs and a wide assortment of brackets, fittings, valves and brake lines. Wilwood's off-shelf brake calipers range in size from tiny calipers used on go-carts and light duty industrial equipment, to heavy duty original equipment brakes for the U.S. military Humvee. Wilwood's engineering department uses the latest computer aided design and manufacturing techniques in conjunction with finite element analysis, dynamic test and cycle test equipment, to find high-performance and reliability solutions to the most difficult braking tasks. Wilwood's extensive inventory of proprietary on-the-shelf components permit them to provide very cost-effective solutions to unique brake applications. Wilwood is ISO compliant and has extensive experience maintaining quality levels of 100ppm or less for original equipment manufacturers.

Simply put, the master cylinder in your vehicle generates the pressure needed for proper brake system function. The master cylinder converts the pedal pressure you apply with your foot into hydraulic pressure for the brake system. Your brake pedal is connected to your master cylinder using a pushrod. When you apply pressure to the brake pedal, the master cylinder pistons compress the brake fluid which pressurizes the brake lines. This pressure then pushes on the pistons in your brake calipers, and ultimately clamping the brake pads onto the rotors to slow and stop your vehicle.
The pressure exerted on the brake pedal by your foot is converted into hydraulic pressure by the master cylinder. That pressure sends brake fluid through your brake lines and actuates the caliper pistons, which slows and stops your vehicle.
The brake booster sits in between the master cylinder and driver's pedal and boosts pressure, making it easier to function when pressing the pedal. Surprisingly, it requires a great deal of force to compress the master cylinder pistons.
