Are carbon fiber and fiberglass trunks and rear decklids safe?

Carbon fiber and fiberglass trunks and rear decklids are strong and durable, and function like a normal OEM part.  However, you need to make sure that the inner structure (underside) of the trunk or rear decklid is designed to fold or crumple in the event of a rear impact.
