Tachometers
What is tachometer used for?
A tachometer (also called tach) is a gauge instrument designed to measure revolutions per minute (RPM) of your engine. While there are many reasons to measure RPM with a tachometer, manual transmission drivers can use a tach to ensure proper shift points for maximum performance and optimal fuel efficiency.
How does tachometer work?
A tachometer works like a volt meter. The engine RPMs are converted to electric voltage on a calibrated analogue dial. Digital or electric tachometers convert the analog input into a digital format for display.
